Obtaining a Library Card
Litchfield Residents Adults may register for a library card with proper identification showing name and current address. Children under age 18 must register with a parent or guardian.
Litchfield Teachers Litchfield teachers may register for a library card with proper school identification. This card must be renewed each school year.
Non-Residents Other New Hampshire residents may obtain a library card, with proper identification, for an annual fee of $20.00. Borrower’s
ResponsibilitiesThe person whose name appears on the library card is responsible for all materials checked out on that card. Adults who sign the registration card for children are responsible for materials checked out on the child’s card.
It is the borrower’s responsibility to:
§ properly care for library materials;
§ return or renew materials in a timely manner ;
§ reimburse the library for any lost or damaged materials; and
§ pay any fines/fees incurred.
Further, as children are given free access to all library materials, it is the parent or guardian’s responsibility to monitor what his/her child reads or views. The library assumes that anyone in possession of another person’s library card is authorized by that person to use the card unless it has been reported stolen or lost.
Forgotten Cards Cardholders may be asked for other identification before borrowing materials or using other services requiring a library card.
Confidentiality of Library Records Cutler Memorial Library complies with NH RSA 202 D:11 regarding the confidentiality of library records, which applies to all cardholders, adult and minor. Individual library records, including borrowed, reserved and inter-library loaned items, as well as fines and fees, are confidential and will only be revealed to the cardholder, regardless of age, or to another person with the cardholder’s consent.
Circulation Information
This library card is valid in Litchfield only.
Non-Circulating Materials include Reference material, Special Collections and current issues of magazines.
Loan Periods
§ A 3-day loan period applies to Activity Passes.
§ A 1-week loan period applies to Videos and DVDs.
§ A 3-week loan period applies to all other circulating materials.
Loan Restrictions
§ 5 video/DVDs total per cardholder
§ 2 “New” books, 1 “New” DVD, or 2 DVDs total per cardholder
§ Temporary restrictions may be placed on specific subjects during class assignments, on holiday books or other high demand items.
Return of Materials All borrowed materials may be returned to the Main Desk during regular hours or they may be left at any time in the return boxes outside the rear entrance.
Renewals Items may be renewed in person or over the phone unless they are on reserve. Items that are overdue may be renewed and the fine paid on your next visit.
§ Activity passes may not be renewed.
§ Videos, DVDs may be renewed once.
§ All other materials may be renewed up to two times.
Overdue Fees All overdue fees must be paid before borrowing additional materials.
§ Videos, DVDs and Activity Passes— $1.00 per day
§ All other materials - 10¢ per day The maximum overdue fee for any one item is $5.00 or the replacement cost, whichever is less.
Reserves
Materials in the collection may be placed on reserve. Patrons will be notified by phone or e-mail when the materials become available. Items will be held up to one week.
Inter-Library Loan (ILL) Materials not found in the library’s collection may be obtained from another library by filling out an Inter-Library Loan form. Patrons will be notified by phone or e-mail when the materials become available. Items will be held up to two weeks. ILL materials may be renewed at the discretion of the lending library.
Services
Copy Machine—15¢ per 8.5 x11, 20¢ per 8.5 x 14 and 30¢ per 11x 14 sheet.
Computer Printer—15¢ per b/w page and 25¢ per color page.
FAX Machine—$1.00 per out-going page; 50¢ per in-coming page; no charge for cover sheets.
Computers—A reference computer is available for patron use on the main floor. Patrons may sign up to use a computer for a maximum of 30 minutes at a time when others are waiting.
Activity Passes—A variety of passes are available at no charge, courtesy of the Friends of the Library. Call for list of current passes.
Handicap Accessible Lift—A handicap accessible lift is available to patrons with temporary or permanent disabilities who cannot use the stairs.
Young Readers’ Room The Young Readers’ Room is located on the lower level of the library. This collection serves young readers through 6th grade. Special programming and events are offered throughout the year. Inquire at the Children’s for a current schedule.Children and Safety Because the Library utilizes multiple levels with multiple exits, children under age 10 may not be left alone and must be attended by responsible caregiver age 14 or older while on the library premises. Further, children under age 5 must be within visual and physical contact of a responsible caregiver at all times. Library Staff are not authorized to supervise children outside of a program/event and may not take children to the restroom.

Subscriptions to an email service that will alert you to new content are available.
Friends of the Library The Friends of the Library meet the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Library, except January and July. Membership information is available at the Main Desk. Call the library to confirm meeting dates or email acml_friends@comcast.net.
Library Board of Trustees The Library Board of Trustees is elected by the townspeople and holds a public meeting the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:00p.m. in the Library. Contact the Trustees at acml_trustees@comcast.net.
