Position Title: Library Director
Pay Grade: 10
Reports To: Library Board of Trustees

Job Summary and Objectives: The Library Director performs administrative, supervisory, and technical services in managing the library. This includes, but is not limited to, the library budget, materials collection, staffing, and patron services. The Director carries out policies adopted by the Board of Trustees, and makes recommendations for growth and improvement. This position is subject to review through observation, reports and the results achieved.

Job Duties:

I. Finance
· Prepare budget with the Trustees and make recommendations for anticipated budget needs
· Make budgeted purchases, and keep accurate records thereof
· Approve all bills, and deliver to the Selectman’s office for payment.
· Collect library fines and fees; keeps accurate record of all petty cash expenditures
· Keep accurate record of all petty cash expenditures.
· Keep payroll records and turn timesheets over to the Selectman’s office for payment
· Approve staff expense reports and submit to the Selectman’s office for payment
· Prepare monthly bank deposit for Treasurer of the Trustees
· Reconcile the monthly Actual & Budgeted Expenditures & Encumberance report from the Town with library records

II. Personnel
· Interview candidates and make recommendations for hiring of personnel
· Train and supervise personnel
· Delegate tasks among staff as appropriate
· Inform Trustees as to recommended changes in working conditions, fringe benefits and salaries
· Conduct regular staff evaluations
· Create employee schedule
· Track vacation, sick, and personal time and approves same

III. Trustee Interaction
· Prepare monthly statistical and narrative reports
· Attend monthly Trustee meetings · Recommend Warrant Articles
· Inform Trustees of all non-routine building maintenance needs in a timely fashion
· Attend, along with a Trustee, budget hearings with the Town Board of Selectmen, Town Budget Committee, and the Town Deliberative Session

IV. Collection Management
· Approve selection of materials to be ordered based on collection needs
· Place and track orders of all materials
· Track material expenditures by category of purchases for use by librarians
· Catalog all library materials promptly per accepted library standards
· Manage evaluation and weeding of library materials to maintain a complete and current collection
· Manage maintenance and repair of collection

V. Building and Equipment Maintenance
· Schedule and monitor routine building maintenance and repair
· Oversee maintenance of all equipment including, but not limited to computers, copy machine, telephones, and fax machine
· Oversee maintenance of all computer hardware and software including software updates

VI. Circulation and Patron Services
· Keep accurate circulation statistics
· Oversee Inter-Library Loan, and keep accurate records
· Track and manage the recovery of overdue, lost, and damaged materials
· Perform regular circulation desk duties, including issuing library cards, checking materials in and out, verifying patron status, and collecting payment of fines and fees
· Provide reference and reader’s advisory service to all ages
· Assist patrons with use of all print and electronic library resources
· Offer computer and Internet assistance and/or instruction
· Assist patrons with copy and FAX machines · Maintain patron confidentiality
· Answer telephone and deal courteously with the public
· Shelve and shelf-read materials

VII. Public Relations
· Promote a strong community outreach program
· Write article for the Hudson Litchfield News and prepare other press releases on the library’s needs and accomplishments
· Is visible to the public and receptive to their needs and requests
· Prepare annual report for the Town Report
· Work with Friends of the Library and sits on their Executive Board as an Ex-Officio member · Maintain Library website
· Maintain patron mailing list

VIII. Education and Development
· Inform Trustees of meetings and workshops
· Attend local and regional meetings and workshops
· Join and participate in the Merri-Hill-Rock Library Co-op, the NH Library Association, and the NH Library Trustees Association
· Encourage staff to attend library courses and/or workshops
· Know current library law
· Keep accurate with changes in library systems and technology

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

I. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required: General knowledge of library procedures; ability to deal with the public effectively; ability to maintain accurate and complete records; computer literate; ability to supervise and delegate responsibility. Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel, Quicken Basic, Print Master, Blogger, Ebsco Host databases, and Sagebrush Spectrum, or similar software. Must be fluent in English.

II. Education: Bachelors Degree; previous library experience. MLS or MLS candidate preferred. III. Physical Requirements: Must be able to bend, squat and stretch as necessary. Must be able to use a two-step foot stool. Must also be able to lift, push or carry items of moderate weight (40 pounds), such as book carts, boxes, book bags, furnishings and equipment.
